Disowned without just cause : Quakers in Rochester, Massachusetts, during the eighteenth century. Carol, Hagglund University of Massachusetts Amherst
This dissertation puts all these Quaker records we are transcribing into perspective related to the Quaker mindset, methodology and the evolution of the various monthly meetings from Sandwich to Dartmouth.
While it's focus is the Rochester Meeting (which was a ‘constituent meeting’ of Dartmouth for many years), the influence of the Sandwich and Dartmouth Meetings paint a more encompassing story of the early Quaker settlements across all of the South Coast.
It addresses the Proprietors and land distribution, building the Friends organization, and formulating and implementing policies such as found in the Quaker Books of Discipline.
A must read for anyone interested in the Quaker history of our south coast!
